Eva zu Beck gained popularity on YouTube for sharing her traveling adventures through cultural vlogging and short documentaries. As of December 2019, she has over 391,000 subscribers. She has been a featured travel personality in Condé Nast Traveler and The Huffington Post.[1]
Eva's most viewed videos are all about Pakistan. Eva's first trip to Pakistan lasted 11 days only, so she knew she had to come back a second time to travel other parts of Pakistan. Her second trip has lasted over 6 months.[12]
Coronavirus Outbreak
Eva landed in Socotra, Yemen, on March 11, 2020, to run the remote island's first marathon. Shortly after the race, she and her fellow runners were informed that they had to leave immediately, as the coronavirus pandemic was spreading and countries around the world were closing their borders. She decided to stay.
For the first six weeks, zu Beck and her fellow runners set up camp on a beach, watching the sunrise from their tents, fishing and bartering for their meals, cooking on an open fire, and exploring the island on extended hikes.
She then moved in with a local family - she spent most of her nights camping outside of their home - and taught herself how to ride a motorbike, which she used to get around, though she said she spent the last few weeks mostly staying put.[20]
Later, zu Beck told Insider via email that she managed to leave Socotra on a cargo ship on May 30 - a full three months after arriving.[20]
The journey, which was documented on Eva's YouTube channel, took six days traveling 2,500 kilometers at a speed of around 15 kilometers an hour and the group was made to spend another eight days on board the vessel off the coast of the United Arab Emirates to quarantine before being allowed into transit and take a flight home to Poland.[21]
Education
Eva graduated from the University of Oxford with a degree in German & French.[1]
