Eula R. Clarke is Mayor of Stuart, Florida.
Education
Eula Clarke is a graduate of Hampton School, Malvern, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica (1975) and Palm Beach Junior College (1977) as well as Florida State University (1979) where she obtained a Bachelor's of Arts in Geography & Sociology with a Minor in Public Administration. She also holds a Master of Science in Urban and Regional Planning (MSP) from Florida State and a Juris Doctor degree from University of Florida School of Law in 1996.
Career
Prior to becoming Mayor, Clarke was Stuart City Commissioner and Vice Mayor from December 2011 - December 2012.
She was previously Mayor of Stuart from December 2012 to December 2013.
As a solo attorney, Eula Clarke practiced Marital and Family law, Dependency Law, Probate, Guardianship, Corporations, Criminal, Wills and Civil Matters.
She also worked for the US Census Bureau and Florida Rural Legal Services.
Personal Life
Eula Clarke has been married to Dennis A. Clarke for 28 years.
Dennis is an IBEW Electrician.
They have 2 sons, Hugh Clarke, Cum Laude Criminology graduate of the University of Florida, Gainesville and graduate of The Washington School of Law at American University and Chad Clarke, a Business Management graduate of the University of North Florida, Jacksonville and currently serving in the United States Army.
Police Controversy
On January 11, 2017, Mayor Clarke called a police officer a pig.
According to the union, she and Officer Ed Fitzgerald were at Taylor's Grocery Store.
Officer Fitzgerald was speaking with the store clerk when the mayor looked at him and said:
"I didn't know we were serving pig tonight."
She publicly apologized for the insult and wrote a letter to Stuart's police department.
Nevertheless, there are calls for her to resign as a result of her comments.
