Eryn Allen Kane is a singer based in Chicago. She originally hails from Detroit, Michigan.
Early Life
Kane was born and raised in Detroit and attended the Detroit School of Arts. An early influence in her life and decision to attend that high school was one of their most famous alumni, Aaliyah. In her late teens, she signed a development deal, but it went astray and she decided to go to college to study acting. After spending a summer in Australia, she "found herself."
Music Career
In 2013, Kane released the song "Hollow" which caught the attention of Prince, and two years later after releasing another track, "Have Mercy," he took her under his wing. Together they created "Baltimore" together that deals with Freddie Gray and performed it live in Baltimore. She released her first project, Aviary, in two parts on her SoundCloud at the end of 2015. Kane has been featured on several artists songs including Moody Good, Mura Masa, and Chance the Rapper. In the music video for "Same Drugs," Kane is featured as the "singing puppet thing."
Influences
Kane has stated that she is strongly influenced by gospel and that she draws her sound from Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Etta James, and Nina Simone.
