Dave Kindred

Dave Kindred is an American Columnist, Author, and teacher based in Illinois. [3]

Early Life

Kindred grew up in Atlanta, Illinois and attended Illinois Wesleyan. [3] He married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl. [10]

Career

Kindred has been a Columnist for the Louisville Courier-Journal , the Washington Post , the, and Golf Digest . [10] He is a director of Indiana University's National Sports Journalism Center and an adjunct professor at Bradley University and his alma mater, Illinois Wesleyan University. [10] Some of the most notable things he covered were Joe Theisman leading the Washington Redskins to the Super Bowl and writing about the Dream Team in the 1992 Olympics. [13] At the end of his career, Kindred went back to his roots and started covering girls basketball at Morton High School. [17]

Authorship

Kindred is the author of several books including Heroes, Fools and Other Dreamers: A Sportswriter's Gallery of Extraordinary People, Around the World in 18 Holes, The Colorado Silver Bullets for the Love of the Game: For the Love of the Game: Women Who Go Toe-To-Toe With the Men,Morning Miracle: Inside the Washington Post The Fight to Keep a Great Newspaper Alive, and ** Sound and Fury: Two Powerful Lives, One Fateful Friendship (the dual biography of Muhammad Ali and Howard Cosell) . Awards

Dave's work has earned him the the Red Smith Award (sports journalism’s highest honor), Curt Gowdy Award (for outstanding contributions to basketball) as well as a National Headliner award for general-interest columns.
