Tanner Chung, better known as Dack Janiels, is an electronic music producer, DJ, and brand designer based in Los Angeles, California. Chung produces dubstep and heavy bass music and is the founder of 40 oz. Cult, a fashion brand inspired by his passion for skating and music.
Biography
Early Life
Chung grew up in Belmont, California outside of San Francisco. He is of Japanese and Irish descent. Chung's father worked in TV and media while his mother works at an elementary school. Growing up, his father played R&B and soul and his mother listened to classic rock.
Chung started skateboarding when he was 4 years old and would eventually become a lifelong passion of his.
When he skated, he listened to alternative rock, metal, and hip-hop. Chung played guitar for seven years before transitioning to music production.
Career
Chung attended California State University, Northridge where he was in their business program. When he was not in class, Chung would focus on producing on Ableton. When he heard of ICON Collective, Chung applied, enrolled, and was attending both college and the music production school at the same time. When the workload became too much, Chung decided to drop out of school and focus on music instead. At ICON, he focused on mixing and mastering. After graduating ICON, he saw a boost in his career and did around 30 to 40 shows.
Chung started 40 OZ.
Cult around 2015 and was inspired by skate brands.
He wanted to connect his passion for skating and passion for creating music to his brand.
As a hip-hop producer, Chung worked with Chief Keef's Glo Gang label and produced for the Glo Gang Twins and Lil Flash. In addition, Chung produced for Famous Dex which is set to be released on a future date.
