On Tuesday August 21, 2018, Rivera was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of University of Iowa student, Mollie Tibbetts, who has been missing since July 18, 2018.
Rivera led investigators to her body in a cornfield in rural Poweshiek County.
He was seen on video near the east side of Brooklyn, Iowa as Tibbetts jogged on July 18, 2018.
Rivera told investigators he was driving his car and began following Tibbets.
Rivera told investigators he parked his car, got out and ran behind and along side her.
Tibbets grabbed her phone and stated she was calling police, Rivera told investigators, and he panicked and got mad.
