Conrad Roy III was a teen resident of Mattapoisett, Massachusetts.

His grandfather owned a tugboat company and he earned his captain's license at age 18.

Conrad struggled with anxiety and depression, and was hospitalized for a acetaminophen overdose at age 17.

In 2014, Conrad committed suicide by poisoning himself with carbon monoxide fumes in his truck in a KMart parking lot.

He was encouraged to do so through a phonecall and several text messages from his long-distance girlfriend Michelle Carter, who is now being charged for involuntary manslaughter and faces up to 20 years in prison.

Conrad had talked about committing suicide for a long time, but on the day of his suicide, he had second thoughts and even left the car because he got scared while he was poisoning himself.

Michelle had a long talk with him and sent him texts encouraging him to go through with it.

Conrad and Michelle had met in Florida while visiting relatives.
