Charles Kinsey is a behavioral therapist from Miami, Florida. He is 47-years-old. Charles is married to Joyce Kinsey. ^[1]

Shooting Incident

On July 20th, 2016, Charles was trying to retrieve a 23-year-old autistic man who ran away from the group home in North Miami. Neighbors in the area called the police concerned that the autistic man was holding a gun, but it ended up being a toy truck.

When police arrived at the scene, Charles raised his hands in the air with his body laying on the ground.

He attempted to communicate to police that he was no threat and a professional trying to help his patient.

The officer, Police officer Jonathan Aledda shot him anyway.

When Charles asked the officer why he shot him, the officer replied, "I don't know."

After the shooting Kinsey said “I was more worried about him than myself,” of the autistic man, whose name hasn’t been released.

His wife Joyce Kinsey said of the shooting “I’m just grateful he’s alive and able to tell his story.”

Charles is now filing a federal lawsuit and says that his civil rights were violated.
