An avid country music fan, Brian attended the Route 91 Harvest Country music festival in the weekend of September 29th - October 1st in Las Vegas. On Sunday evening, he and his wife, Stephanie, and other friends, attended the last performance of the show which was by Jason Aldean. He made his way to the stage in anticipation of Aldean singing his favorite song, "Dirt Road Anthem". [3]
As the show went on, a Mass shooting enacted by Stephen Paddock took place at he festival. Paddock, from the 32nd floor of the corner of the Mandalay Bay, shot down on the crowd using full automatic assault rifles. [2]
As the bullets rained down on the audience of the show, Brian didn't believe there was a shooting taking place, so he stood looking to see where the shots were coming from as the rest of his friends including his wife, ducked for cover.
According to TIME Magazine, while Brian stood up as the shots took place, he didn't think any shooting was happening, and moments later, he was struck. [4]In another version, ABC News reports that Brian was looking around to see where the shots were coming from in order to shield Stephanie, his wife, which is how he died. Nearby first responders performed CPR to no avail. [2] [2]
