She was noted as the estranged wife of Mainak Sarkar, the shooter involved in the UCLA Shooting (June 1, 2016). She was on a "hit list" which police found in relation to Mainak Sarkar and was found dead on June 1, 2016 in her residence in Minnesota.
Ashley and Mainak had broken up and had stopped being friends on Facebook, indicating strife. Her family members said Mainak Sarkar was absent from family gatherings, and that Ashley had kicked Sarkar out of the house, and they had been living separately.
Her body was discovered when police ordered a "welfare check" after discovering Sarkar's body in the homicide of professor William Klug after the UCLA Shooting incident. Authorities reported that her body had appeared deceased for at least a couple of days.
Background
Mainak Sarkar and Hasti had dated around 2011, while they both lived in Los Angeles. According to the Hennepin, MN County Clerk’s Office, Hasti and Sarkar were married on June 14, 2011. Hasti earned a degree in premed studies from Scripps College in Claremont, California, in 2010. She also held an undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis. Hasti previously worked as a tutor at North Hennepin Community College in Minnesota from 2011 to 2012.
