Andy Cuong Ngo (born c. 1986) is an American Journalist best known for covering street protests in Portland, Oregon. He has written columns in The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, the National Review, amongst others, and is an editor for Quillette. Ngo received national attention in June 2019 when he was attacked by Anti members during a protest in Portland. He is typically considered to be politically conservative by other journalists. [7]
Early Life & Education
Andy Ngo was born in Portland, Oregon to Vietnamese boat refugee parents.Ngo's mother belonged to a middle-class family who owned a jewelry Business. After the collapse of the South Vietnamese State in 1975, their family home and business were confiscated by the communists regime. Ngo's Mother and family were sent to a labor camp. His family were later settled in the United States.[5]
Career
Andy is an independent journalist and photographer dedicated to covering topics related to protests, free expression, and Islam. He also develops podcast series Things You Should Ngo.[2] Andy has been published in the Wall Street Journal, Quillette Magazine, , , and others. [2]
Antifa Incidents
On June 29, 2019, Andy Ngo was physically attacked by masked members of Antifa.[6]
Ngo was documenting a demonstration by Antifa.
He was filming their counter protest to the Proud Boys' march in Portland, Oregon. He appeared with his GoPro camera at the Multnomah County Justice Center. While filming the protest, he was struck in the back of the head. Soon thereafter, multiple protesters punched him repeatedly in the head and face. The protesers also spilled and threw milkshakes at him.[8]
Andy required hospitalization and suffered a brain hemorrhage.[7]
