Andrew Montgomery is a venture capitalist and corporate development professional. He works in Google's Corporate Development group and is also a Founding and Managing Partner at MESA Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm.
Personal Life
Andrew lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife Courtney Morgan, who is a first grade teacher. They first met while students at Georgetown University and got married on April 8, 2012 at 632 on the Hudson in Greenwich Village, New York.
Andrew grew up in Westford, Massachusetts. His mother, Ann Montgomery is the founder and president of Nonprofit Management Systems, a company in Westford that provides fund-raising consultation to nonprofits. His father, John Montgomery's is a Senior Director at Hitachi Data Systems.
Career
Andrew Montgomery has worked in Corporate Development at Google since September, 2016. He has also been a Managing Partner at MESA Ventures since June, 2012 when he founded the firm with Mark Patricof. The firm invests in early stage consumer tech and software startups that are primarily U.S based. MESA invests in collaboration with top Seed and Series A investors.
From January-September, 2016 Andrew worked in Corporate Development at Zynga, a social video game company. At Zynga, Andrew was responsible for evaluating potential Mergers & Acquisitions, investments and partnership opportunities that help Zynga reach its mission to connect the world through games.
From December, 2010-2013 Andrew as a Vice President MESA Securities (acquired by Houlihan Lokey in June 2015) which was an investment bank focused on advising clients on buy-side and sell-side M&A and private placements in the media, technology, advertising and entertainment sectors. During his time at MESA, Andrew helped successfully lead execution on more than 35 client engagements in 7 countries; notable transactions included: Advisor to The Interpublic Group of Companies (IPG) on its sale of NAS Recruitment Communications to Stone Goff Partners; Advisor to Big Lead Sports on its sales to Gannett Co.; Advisor to MetroLeap Media on its sale to CBS Corporation; Advisor to Columbus Nova on its acquisition of Harmonix from Viacom; and Advisor to Blue Man Group on a minority investment from GF Capital Management. As Vice President, he was primarily responsible for leading deal execution on behalf of clients. In addition, He also focused on developing a network of relationships, ranging from entrepreneurs and executives at relevant companies to venture capital, growth equity and private equity investors. In addition, he was responsible for interviewing, training, staffing and mentoring junior banking staff.
From September, 2008-December, 2010, Andrew was an Associate at MESA Securities.
In this role, his primary responsibility was to support senior bankers with execution of client engagements.
This included building technical operating and financing models; preparing summary and marketing materials for a clients; and creating and analyzing in-depth due diligence on both buy-side and sell-side mandates. He also spent time establishing deep industry expertise and working knowledge of all relevant sectors, business models, investors and acquirers. As one of the first members of the newly established investment bank, he was also focused on organizing industry coverage responsibilities, developing internal transaction databases, identifying and implementing third-party software systems, and creating MESA's marking materials.
From August, 2006-July, 2008 Andrew was an Analyst in Media and Telecoms Investment Banking Division. In this role, he supported senior bankers in preparing client presentations, offering memoranda, board presentations and internal committee meeting materials for a wide range of clients regarding mergers & acquisitions, leveraged buyouts, and public / private market financings. Andrew also built detailed financing, merger and LBO models to depict and analyze accretion / dilution, synergies, discounted cash flows, pro-forma leverage, liquidity and covenant compliance. My responsibilities also included performing public trading, precedent transaction and leverage comparables and participating in client meetings, due diligence, drafting, deal marketing and internal committee meetings. Notable completed transactions during my time at Merrill Lynch included Verizon Communications' $2.7 Billion asset sale to FairPoint Communications and movie exhibitor Cinemark, Inc.’s $532 Million Initial Public Offering.
Education
Andrew Montgomery graduated from Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 2006. In 2002, he graduated from Phillips Academy, Andover.
