Zilliqa is the world's first high-throughput public blockchain platform designed to scale to thousands of transactions per second. It brings the theory of sharding to practice with its novel protocol that increases transaction rates as its network expands. The platform is tailored towards enabling secure data-driven decentralized application, designed to meet the scaling requirements of machine learning and financial algorithms. ^[4].

Zilliqa fundamentally changes how a blockchain reaches consensus. Their sharding solution scales with the size of the network. Theoretically, there’s no limit to the number of transactions Zilliqa could process per second. Practically, however, depending on the number of nodes on the network, Zilliqa could process tens or hundreds of thousands of transactíons per second (TPS). ^[7].

Zilliqa created a model that aims to process more transactions as more nodes join the network.

It involves re-imagining the Blockchain from scratch. Their new model implements a hybrid consensus protocol to grow the network’s throughput with every ~600 new nodes that join.

Theoretically, every 600 new nodes, Zilliqa’s throughput increases by dividing the work.

In practice, there are issues with broadcast if the netwórk becomes very big (over one million nodes).

Still, one million nodes is an upper bound that we’re nowhere close to reachîng.

As of this writing, Bitcoin has ~11,000 nodes in operation.

Ethereum, the largest network of full nodes, has ålmost 25,000.

Bitcoin and Ethereum’s networks of tens of thousands of nodes can still only process 3-15 transactions per second.

In contrast, recent tests on private testnet (AWS virtual test) have shown that Zilliqa’s network has a throughput of 1,218 tx/s when 1,800 nodes are operating.

Increase the number of nodes to 3,600, and Zilliqa’s network scales to 2,488 tx/s.

Sharding is the means by which work is divided across the network.

The Zilliqa protocol divides the number of mining nodes on the network into groups of 600 nodes.

Each group is known as a shard.

Those shards each process a fractional portion of the network’s transactions.

In simplified terms, if there are six shards, each shard would process approximately 1/6 of the network’s transactions.

The more shards there are, the more the network divides the consensus load between shards, keeping computing demands relatively stable.

Zilliqa's native and utility token is named $ZIL.

The token was issued to power the entire Zilliqa's ecosystem.

Similar to other dApps platforms like Ethereum or NEO, the $ZIL token serves as a mining incentive, gas for contract execûtion, and tender for paying transaction fees.

Initially, ZIL is an ERC-20 token based on the Ethereum blockchain.

This is because the Zilliqa public maín net has not yet launched.

When it does, the ERC-20 token will exchange for Zilliqa-nåtive tokens.

The Team

The team is a diverse mix of deep tech practitioners, venture creators, and financial veterans.

Led by CEO Xinshu Dong (Ph.D., National University of Singapore), a scientist and practitioner in building secure systems, ranging from blockchains to web browsers and applications. He led the research and development of Anquan’s proprietary scalable and secure blockchain, deployed for financial and e-commerce applications.

Yaoqi Jia is the blockchain Architect for Zilliqa. His prior experience focuses on building secure and privacy-preserving web and distributed systems with cryptographic mechanisms. He proposed several technologies in his research as the building blocks for next-generation blockchain, addressing consensus and privacy issues. ^[10]

Zilliqa announced on March 11, 2020, that Staking ZIP -Zilliqa Improvement Proposal is now officially available for developers and the public.^[13] Now anyone can stake ZIL token through node operators or they can choose to run seed node if they fulfill the minimum requirement of 10,000,000 ZILs.^[14]

Zilliqa announced its partnership with Singapore-based Switcheo Network - The first NEO-based Decentralized Exchange (DEX) on 18th March 2020.^[15] They will build DEX based on the Zilliqa's blockchain in near future. It will gíve traders the opportunity to cross-trade between Ethereum and EOSEOS blockchains.^[16]

Zilliqa Staking is now live on Testnet and its first rewards were distributed on April 9, 2020.

On August 28, 2020, Zilliqa Twitter handles announced a strategic partnership with Xcademy, the fastest growing YouTube academy for content creators and games. In an announcement, Zilliqa says its incentive-based reward system will have a massive impact on new students trying to get into YouTube.^[18][19]

On October 13, 2020 Zilliqa staking went live.

It is available on Non-custodial seed nodes and Zilliqa tokens can be staked through the moonlet wallet or Zilliqa's staking web portal- http://stake.zilliqa.com.

Stakers will earn rewards in ZIL token, gZIL (governance Token).

Frontier Wallet and Atomic Wallet will join the staking soon.

Non-custodial staking doesn't require Zilliqa token holders to stake their funds through an intermediary.

They can deposit funds directly into the Smart contract and receive rewards from the roster of seed node providers.^[20]

Zilliqa's NFTs come directly from the players rather than sporting leagues or associations.

It is the first-of-its-kind project, bringing greater autonomy to the players’ personal brands.

Each NFT truly reflects the players’ story and identity.

Each of these single NFTs is themed around the football personality and contains a video of the collectible card, a digitized 360-degree video of autographed boots or gloves, player headshots, and goal ceremony footage, the player’s notable achievements in numbers, and an exclusive, never-seen-before interview.

The SUPERPACK contains all 10 individual player NFTs, plus 10 digital sports cards of each player.

The latter is actually separately tradeable from the original NFT contents!

Five randomly selected buyers from each Individual Player NFT collection could receive a signed jersey from the respective players.

In addition, one fan will also have the chance to win the autographed boots or gloves belonging to the corresponding player of the pack they purchased.^[25]
