YEEZY Home
YEEZY Home
YEEZY home is an architectural arm of the YEEZY brand founded by Kanye West. [1]
Overview
Kanye West's fascination with design naturally grew into a love of architecture. Kanye first let the public know of his interest in the field in 2013 when he said in an interview that he was working with several architects to learn more about the process. During that same year, he told students at Harvard University that the world could be "saved through design" in a passionate speech about architecture. [2]
On May 6 2018, Kanye West tweeted: [1]
"we’re starting a Yeezy architecture arm called Yeezy home.
We’re looking for architects and industrial designers who want to make the world better"
Social Housing Project
The original vision for YEEZY home was the Social Housing Project—buildings defined by prefabricated concrete components with a design aesthetic much like the YEEZY Studio in Calabasas. The Calabasas studio is a minimalist, stripped down 14,390 square foot 70's style, 2-story concrete building. [4] [3]
Domes
"Kanye is building dome-like structures that are prototypes for a new type of home... homes he believes will break the barriers that separate classes... namely, the rich, the middle class and the poor."
Kanye began construction on the giant domes in 2018 but was forced to halt and deconstruct the project after noise complaints from neighbors.
West's team was working more than 12 hours on Saturdays, which is against the 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. rules, and he was also doing additional work on Sundays, which is forbidden.
West also failed to obtain the correct building permit. [7]
"HOME" Collection
In August of 2019, Off-White and Virgil Abloh debuted a home decor collection comprised of three self-explanatory categories: “CERAMICS,” “BED,” and “BATH." [8]
"CERAMICS" offers a breakfast set, a lunch set, coffee mugs, ash trays and soap trays.
All items are crafted from ivory-colored porcelain, finished with a cornflower blue print, and each item bears the markings of an Off-White™ logo.
"BED" offers a coconut-white double bed set, embroidered with the brand’s ARROWS logo in black. The category also includes an orange tassel-knit throw blanket.
"BATH" offers an ivory-white towel set and bathrobe with embroidered logos.
Team
The original design team for YEEZY home consists of Kanye West, Jalil Peraza, Petra Kustrin, Nejc Škufca and Vadik Marmeladov.
