William S. (Billy) Macklowe is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of William Macklowe Company (WMC).
Launched in July 2010, WMC is a private equity-backed, fully-integrated real estate development, investment and operating company based in New York City.
As a manager and investor of institutional capital, WMC employs discipline, investment and risk management strategies to achieve attractive risk-adjusted returns.
WMC’s primary focus is on the acquisition and redevelopment of prime commercial and residential assets in New York City.
The company also engages in strategic lending, real estate correlated investments, portfolio acquisitions, and pursues select third-party management assignments for which it employs the level of service and operations, long-recognized as exemplifying the highest standards in its industry.
Prior to forming his own company, Billy was the President of Macklowe Properties which over a period of 40 years initiated the development of and investment in commercial and residential real estate transactions encompassing over 25 million square feet and valued in excess of $15 billion.
The firm was particularly known for identifying and creating added value, and implementing innovative design, meticulous planning, construction, leasing and management within all of its investment sectors.
Most recently, WMC in a joint venture with Clarion Partners, completed the successful repositioning of 636 Avenue of the Americas. Billy was responsible for many of that firm’s successful development and redevelopment efforts including, but not limited to, 340, 400 and 540 Madison Avenue, 140 West 57th Street, 777 Sixth Avenue and Longacre House.
Additionally, he played a major role in re-establishing The General Motors Building as the preeminent office tower in the world, as well as the placement of over $10 billion of institutional financings.
A graduate of New York University, Billy worked early in his career as a real estate finance analyst at Manufacturers Hanover Trust.
Currently, he is a member of the Real Estate Board of New York’s Board of Governors, The Friends Committee of New Yorkers for Children, Project Sunshine’s Board of Directors, and is a member of the YPO International’s Gotham Chapter, serving on its Executive Committee. In 2009, Billy was honored by the State of Israel Bonds, and in 2011 by the Diabetes Research Institute.
Billy appears regularly on Bloomberg Television as an industry expert and speaks frequently at both universities and industry-specific events.
He resides in Manhattan with his wife, vbeaute founder Julie and their daughter Zoe.
