He received international media attention in March 2019 after cracking an egg over the back of the head of Senator Fraser Anning, who made controversial comments in the wake of the Christchurch mosque attacks.

On Saturday March 16, 2019, a viral video shows Connolly pulling out his phone and an egg as he approached Senator Anning during an interview with reporters.

After the egg smashed on his head, Anning punched Connolly twice.
