Victor Manuel Oquendo (born March 18, 1987) is an American Journalist based in Miami, Florida. He is a news Correspondent at ABC News. [1] [2] [3]
Early Life & Education
Oquendo graduated from University of Miami in 2009 with a (B.A) in Broadcast Journalism. [1]
Career
In summer of 2008 Oquendo had his Internship at CBS News Early Show. Next year, in summer 2009, he was an intern at CBS News. In January 2010, he joined WPLG as a Sports Anchor. Oquendo covered all of South Florida Professional and college teams, reporting on the Miami Heat during the LeBron James era including runs to the NBA Finals in 2010, 2011, and 2013. Oquendo also did a feature story on Miami Heat forward Chris Anderson, interviewing Anderson’s estranged mother. [3]
From 2014-2017, he worked as a News Anchor at WPLG. Oquendo traveled to Cuba several times to report on the thawing of relations between the United States and Cuba as well as Pope Francis's visit to the Island nation in September 2015. Oquendo covered Hurricane Mathew as it wreaked havoc on the East Coast. Oquendo also anchored the weekday evening newscasts from the station's Pembroke Park studio.[7]
