Trevor Timm is an American journalist, activist, and lawyer based in San Francisco, California. He is a co-founder and the executive director of the Freedom of the Press Foundation. ^{[1] [2] [3] [13]}

Timm graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor's degree in political science and international relations. He went on to attend New York Law School, where he received a juris doctorate. ^{[10] [11]}

His writing has appeared in the New York Times , The Guardian , USA Today, The Atlantic, Al Jazeera, foreign policy, Harvard Law and Policy Review, and Politico . He also writes a column on press freedom for Columbia Journalism Review.

In 2013, he received the Hugh M. Hefner First Amendment Award for journalism.
