Tiera Guinn is a 22 year-old student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology who will graduate in 2017. She is also the Design engineer and Stress Analysis expert for Boeing who is helping NASA build the largest rocket in history.
Background
Tiera was born in Mableton and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Her mother had taken notice of her daughter's natural gift with numbers and her ability to establish quantum thinking at a very young age. When she was 6 years old, she began doing complicated Math problems with her mother. At the supermarket, her mother would get her to clip coupons to be used, put them inside the organizer, and would have to calculate the exact total of the purchases including tax before paying at the cashier. Her mother worked hard to ensure that her daughter stay sharp by using her intelligence.
Once, also as a young girl, she looked at the sky and saw a plane.
She realized that she wanted to design planes, and chose to become an Aerospace engineer. Throughout her early education in Middle School, she selected all of her classes carefully and would commute an hour to go to the high school that would best prepare her for the future.
She attended Wheeler High School.
Tiara is currently a student at MIT and will graduate in 2017 and earn her degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, and
Astronautical engineering with a 5.0 grade average. She has been involved in many activities and societies, including:
National Society of Black Engineers, Black Students' Union, Black Women's Alliance, MIT American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Society of Women Engineers, African Dance Team, MIT Intervarsity.
Since June 2016, she has formed part of a team that is currently working on a project to bring the largest rocket in history.
Her job consists of s upport design and analysis efforts for the Space Launch System, with missions to Mars and other beyond Earth orbit destinations.
