Thobani Nzuza (born 04/05/1993) is a South African playwright, actor, director, vocalist, and African dancer best known for his starring role as Mdeni in the Mzansi Magic drama series eHostela.
Early life
His place of birth is in the Umlazi Township in KwaZulu-Natal. Thobani started his journey in the arts in 2010.
Education
He studied in a community arts center under Buhle ‘Bo’ Mlazi. Thobani matriculated from King Shaka High School in Durban in 2011. The next year upon graduating, he enrolled and studied drama at the Durban University of Technology.
Career
He’s the writer and director of Shintsha Guluva for the Isigcawu Festival in 2014.
Thobani performed in the Secret Valley of the Great Kings in 2015, a Menzi Mkhwane play.
He had a collaboration with Kagiso Tsimakwane in writing Boy “Ntulikazi”, his first one-man show. Thobani directed, performed, and later published the show.
Thobani represented African students in a Shakespeare festival in Germany (Folkwang Universität der Künste), in Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Debbie Lutge. He also played his debut starring role in eHostela, an Mzansi Magic drama series in 2018. His debut professional production was silencing the Hurricanes by Themi Venturas. It was performed in Bangkok in the year 2014. In 2019, Thobani landed another starring role on TV in Isipho, an e.tv supernatural telenovela Isipho. It premiered on the 1st of July, 2019.
