History & myths of the river
The history of the River Ethiope has remained unknown despite efforts by explorers and historians in the city.
Its source was discovered by a hunter known as Ugbo during one of his expeditions.
Since the source of the river was discovered, the Umuaja locals claim the river is sacred and have made an altar of worship to the deity known as "Onuku", believing that the river is the same age as life on earth.[6]
Features
The people of Umuaja believe the river posses supernatural healing powers and blessings which is responsible for child bearing, achieving some sort of spiritual powers, etc. One mystery of the silk tree which is the source of the river is that, water is not seen at the front of it; It only discharges water from its roots.
