The DNC Email Scandal of 2016

The DNC Email Scandal of 2016

On July 22nd, 2016, Wikileaks released 19,252 emails that documented exchanges between top Democratic National Committee Officials.

The emails suggest that the DNC actively conspired to derail Bernie Sanders's Presidential campaign and aid Hillary Clinton's in the process.

The release covers the period from January 2015 to late May 2016 and is the first edition in the Hillary Leaks Series of 2016.

[0]The officials involved in the emails are Communications Director Luis Miranda (10,770 emails), National Finance Director Jordon Kaplan (3,797 emails), Finance Chief of Staff Scott Comer (3,095 emails), Finance Director of Data & Strategic Initiatives Daniel Parrish (1,472 emails), Finance Director Allen Zachary (1,611 emails), Senior Advisor Andrew Wright (938 emails) and Northern California Finance Director Robert (Erik) Stowe (751 emails).

Several emails show a pattern of conspiracy.

In one email, the DNC National Press Secretary Mark Paustenbach suggests creating a negative narrative of the Sanders campaign as unorganized.

[-1]In another email, DNC CFO Mark Paustenbach pitches an idea to undermine Sanders by making him out to be an atheist to voters.

[-1]

Ken Vogel, the Chief Investigative Reporter for Politico, emailed a story to be edited by the DNC before its release.

[-1]Other emails include denouncing Sanders's understanding of the Democratic Party after saying he would continue campaigning in Florida and one calling Hillary the presumptive nominee two months before actually clinching it.

[-1] [-1]

Paul Mook, Hillary Clinton's campaign manager, suggests that the emails were leaked to Wikileaks by Russian Hackers who hacked into the DNC servers.

[11] [6]

The emails confirm the suspicions of Sanders supporters that the DNC wanted Hillary to be the party nominee.

[0]There has been much scrutiny and condemnation of the DNC's actions throughout the media ever since the emails were released.

As of July 24th, Debbie Wasserman Schultz is being replaced as Chair of the Democratic National Convention by Rep. Marcia Fudge of Ohio.

[-1]She resigned from being chair of the DNC later that day.
