Sydney Hightower

Sydney Hightower is a TV reality show personality. She appeared on The Bachelor season 24 with Peter Weber.

TV Appearances

In early 2020, Hightower appeared on The Bachelor season 24 with Peter Weber. Sydney was one of Peter's favorites among the 10 remaining contestants. During his Costa Rica trip, Peter picked Sydney to go on a one-on-one date and gave her a piggyback ride after they were dropped off by a helicopter in the middle of a field. During their date, Peter acknowledged that he had put her "through some stuff" in the past few weeks but appreciates that she was "such an amazing rock" for him and wanted to figure out why she was so mysterious.^[2]

In one of the episodes, Hightower started to criticize anoner contestant, Alayah Benavidez. Hightower was open with Weber about her concerns about Benavidez - namely, that she didn't think that Benavidez was being genuine with Weber, and wasn't on the show for the right reasons. Weber gave Hightower a rose on their group date for being honest with him, and went on to eliminate Benavidez. ^[10]

In one of the episodes of the reality TV show, she opened up about being bullied in high school, and after that an old classmate accused her of lying about her past and posted photos of their old yearbook page.^[1]^[8]

In a thread on Twitter, which is deleted by now, she decided to speak out and wrote:

"Feels ridiculous I even have to address this.
But correct I did win a beauty pageant my senior year of high school.
That was voted for by 5 judges.Not
by my peers.Winning a
pageant based off of outer beauty does not take away the racial bullying,and isolation I've been through."^[1]^[8]

"I was also on the cheer team in middle school and in many clubs in highschool.
You'll do anything you can to fit in, and I tried.
I won pageants because of my 'looks' and I was in clubs because I wanted a scholarship to get into college.
Not because I was accepted by my peers."^[1]^[8]

She then went on to detail the specific ways she was bullied by her peers throughout her education:

"Any one from my high school want to pull out the videos of girls stuffing my locker with Oreo cookies, vandalizing my home, shoving me in the hall ways?
Teachers literally referring to me as a halfbreed?
Calling my mother the worst names I've ever heard in my life?
I doubt that."^[1]^[8]

Unlike a lot of other Bachelor contestants who set their Instagram profiles to public after the show finishes filming, Hightower was set to private until recently.

As of February 2020, she has about 102,000 followers on her sydneynicolehigh Instagram account.^[9]

Personal Life

Hightower is from Alabama. And while she loves Alabama, she admits it was a tough place to grow up, as she never really fit in anywhere because of her ethnicity.^[2]

According to her ABC profile, "the end of her last relationship really crushed her" because right before she was supposed to move in with her boyfriend of two years, he told her she wasn't the one.^[2]

Hightower's favorite holiday is Valentine's Day. She loves to hike and dance.^[2]
