Susan Casey is an author, editor, and journalist. She has served as the development editor of Time Inc., the editor-in-chief of Sports Illustrated Women, and editor-at-large for Time Inc.’s magazine titles.
As an author, she has written The Wave: In Pursuit of the Rogues, Freaks, and Giants of the Ocean.
Her first book, The Devil’s Teeth: A True Story of Obsession and Survival Among America’s Great White Sharks, chronicled the white sharks of the Farallon Islands and the scientists who study them.[19]
Career
From 1994 to 1999, Casey was the creative director of Outside Magazine, where she was part of the editorial team that developed the stories behind the best-selling books Into Thin Air and The Perfect Storm and the movie Blue Crush.
Casey won a National Magazine award in 2008 for her Esquire feature, “75,” an investigation of what aging really means, as examined through the life of one exceptional man.
In 2006, she received a National Magazine Award nomination for her story, “Our Oceans Are Turning to Plastic… Are We?” an environmental exposé on the dire impact plastic pollution in the oceans is having on planetary and human health.[34]
After spending three years reporting her most recent book The Wave from Hawaii, Casey returned to Manhattan, becoming the editor-in-chief of O, The Oprah Magazine. [1]
