Dan Schetter (commonly referred to as Surfer Dan) is a Marquette, Michigan resident who has become increasingly popular for surfing Lake Superior during the winter months. ^[8]

Schetter is known for his lifestyle, and some of its unorthodox components.

During the polar vortex in 2019, he was accompanied by Devon Hains and friends to surf Lake Superior. Temperatures outdoors were -3 degrees Fahrenheit, and windchill was at around -30. Hains documented the many activities Schetter was doing, including surfing and jumping in nearly frozen waters. He has has appeared on the Steven Wiig short, "Waiting for Wiig" as Surfer Dan. ^[10]

Schetter is a local legend in the Marquette, Michigan area for surfing Lake Superior year round. He was born and raised in Marquette and Ishpeming, but he would frequent Carney Nadeau with his family. Growing up, he spend a lot of time outdoors. He would go sledding, fishing, hunting. He would grab "onto the bumpers of cars" and would slide behind them. ^[9]
