Crash
The Steinbergs were killed in a crash of a plane operated by Nature Air, a company that focuses on eco-tourism in Costa Rica.
The plane took off from Punta Islita Airport in Guancaste, Costa Rica and crashed just moments later. Ten American passengers, comprised of one guide for Backroads Tours and nine guests (including the five Steinbergs), and two Costa Rican pilots were killed.
Grief and Remembrance
The passing of the Steinbergs triggered a widespread outpouring of grief from those who knew them, due in particular to their kindness and generosity as a family.
"All the Steinbergs will be remembered by their Scarsdale and the temple community as among the most devoted to the welfare of the Jewish community and the beauty of the Jewish tradition,’’ said their Rabbi, Jonathan Blake.
Many others took to Facebook to post memorial messages recounting the kindness of the members of the family.
