Somdip Dey (born December 13, 1990) is an Indian Artificial intelligence Scientist working on Embedded system, a Journalist and an entrepreneur.[1][2][5] His primary work focuses on making artificial intelligence affordable and accessible in developing countries.[3][4]
Early Life and Education
Career
Dey currently works at the University of Essex and the Samsung R&D Institute, UK.[8][9] Dey is also a serial entrepreneur. He co-founded Codeepy Pvt Ltd and ReMe Basket Ltd.[10][11] He has served as an editor of Association for Computing Machinery's XRDS magazine and currently serves as the editor of Frontier in Blockchain: Fourth Industrial Revolution journal.[12][13]
Research
In 2012, Dey developed the first working prototype system to authenticate and authorize student's transcripts in a cost-effective manner using QR code as the medium. This work is later adopted by several institutes around the world as the mean to validate academic certificates and transcripts cost-effectively.[14][15][6][16]
To make artificial intelligence based traffic categorization system affordable for developing countries Dey developed a traffic categorization methodology in 2018, which is capable of processing on the device and mimics a human's ability to learn from the surrounding to improve its learning ability compared to conventional methodologies.
Dey's traffic categorization work was presented at the 2018 NASA/European Space Agency Conference on Adaptive Hardware Systems (NASA/ESA AHS).[19][3] Dey's other notable work includes "foodonomics", a product which utilizes technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain and edge computing to reduce food waste.[20][5]
