David Adkins graduated from the University of Denver in Denver, CO, where he lettered twice for basketball and was known as "Red Chamberlain" due to his flaming red hair and process on the court. Notwithstanding his athletic career was cut short by an injury. After college, Adkins served in the United States Air Force as a boom operator. On evenings off, Adkins often performed stand-up comedy in downtown Wichita; even competing as a comic in the United States Air Force Talent Contest in 1981. ^[1]
