Simon Woodroffe (born 21 September 1974) is a British video game designer and creative director at Rare. He currently resides in Stratford-on-Avon. [1]

Early life and education

Woodroffe attended Solihull School and Birmingham University where he studied artificial intelligence until 1994.

Careeer

In 1990 Woodroffe had already become Lead Designer for AdventureSoft UK Ltd and designed several hit video games such as Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, Simon the Sorcerer and Simon the Sorcerer 2, while still at school and attending University

Woodroffe went on to found Headfirst Productions in 1998, where he worked on Simon the Sorcerer 3D and Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. Woodroffe became Studio Creative Director of Midway Games in 2006, working on Wheelman and Necessary Force. In 2009, Woodroffe became Head of Game Design for Sega West in Solihull where he was involved in the design of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Renegade Ops, Rise of Nightmares, Sonic Generations among many others.

Woodroffe is noted for creating several video game characters including Calypso the Druid, Sordid the evil Sorcerer, Feeble and Simon the Sorcerer.

Andrew Brazier noted several parallels between Woodroffe's character Simon the Sorcerer and Harry Potter.
