Shibani Mahtani is a journalist based in Hong Kong, China. She is a Southeast Asia correspondent at The Washington Post. [1]
Education
Mahtani graduated from London School of Economics and Political Science with a BSc in government. She went on to attend Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she received a Master's degree in journalism.
Career
She joined the Washington Post's foreign desk in 2018 after seven years as a correspondent for the Wall Street Journal in Southeast Asia and later in Chicago, where she covered the Midwest.
Mahtani was the first Myanmar-based correspondent for the Wall Street Journal following the country's opening in 2012, and covered the elections that saw Aung San Suu Kyi come to power and their aftermath.
In Chicago, she covered national news with a focus on criminal justice and policing.
