Shaquille Brewster

Shaquille Brewster

Shaquille Brewster is an American journalist based in Chicago, Illinois. He is a Political Reporter at NBC News.[1]

Education

Brewster graduated Summa cum laude with a degree in Broadcast journalism and political science from Howard University in December 2013. At Howard University, he led the student-run campus television network and contributed political pieces to "The Hilltop" newspaper.[2]

He also maintained a blog, "NavigatingPolitics.com," that he used to simplify and contextualize politics for his peers.

Career

Brewster started his career in 2011 as an Production Assistant Intern at News 12 Connecticut.

Next year, he became an Intern at NBCNews.com. In 2013, he was a Global News Intern at Associated Press. He joined Hearst Television in 2012 as a Freelance Associate Producer and later became an Associate Producer.[2]

Brewster joined NBC News in 2014 as a Tim Russert Fellow. From 2016-2019, he worked there as a producer. Since 2019, he has been a Political Reporter. He has covered the 2016 presidential election across all NBC News platforms. In addition to politics, Shaquille contributed reporting to national breaking news stories including the Death of Freddie Gray, and the Orlando shooting. [2]

Answering the question how he got his start in politics in an interview with Politico, Brewster said:

“It was a somewhat exhausting start.

My first full-time job was as a morning associate producer in Hearst Television’s D.C.

Bureau.

I had just started my final semester at Howard University and I would get to work at 2 a.m. and go straight to my 10 a.m. class.

I guess that was training for the lack of sleep we all get now.”[15]

Personal Life

Brewster is a fan of extreme sports:

“I'm a thrill seeker.

Skydiving, paragliding, jumping off things -- I love it all!”[15]
