Education
Hafii earned his BA from the University of Virginia and his Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Harvard University. [1] He attained his JD from American University, Washington College of Law. [1]
Career
Early in his career, Hafizi was an associate at Mayer Brown where he drafted private placement memoranda, side letters, due diligence questionnaires, and other investor relations materials. [1] While being special counsel in the division of trading and markets, OCIE at the Securities And Exchange Commission, Hazifi led exams for financial professions, examined high frequency and algorithmic trading and order handling practices, and drafted Dodd–Frank Title VII rules governing security-based swaps as well as supervised OTC derivatives clearing regulations. [1]
In 2012, he became counsel at D.E. Shaw and dealt with all quant, trading, and deal teams. [1] Two years later, he became the executive director and counsel at UBS and managed anage equities compliance initiatives in the U.S. with a focus on electronic trading as well as swaps compliance program and teams, and advised on compliance and legal matters for all trading. [1] In January 2016, Hazifi became the chief compliance officer at BlackRock. [1] During his tenure, he led securities, banking, information security, privacy, ethics and compliance, anti-money laundering initiatives and advised sales, product, marketing, communications, and client support teams on financial products, regulatory matters, customer-facing disclosures, terms of use, and related materials. Hazifi became the chief compliance officer and Americas general counsel for Genesis Mining Ltd., one of the largest cloud crypto mining company in the world. His responsibilities include leading Genesis Mining's regulatory and government affairs globally as well as providing legal support for Americas strategic initiatives. [1]
