Biography
Early Life & Education
Sandy Liang grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York. She was in Chinatown a lot, as her father owned a restaurant there. Her mother indirectly influenced her to get into fashion, as she never let Liang buy any clothes that weren't on sale and thought it was shameful to care about outside appearance.
She always had a passion for drawing.
She remembers sketching dresses while sitting in front of the TV watching award shows.
She went to Rhode Island School of Design with the intention of studying architecture. However, she ended up transferring to Parsons School of Design and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2013.
Career
After graduating from Parsons, Liang started her own eponymous label. Her collections have a nostalgic narrative focused on her New York roots. They are often inspired by grandmothers in Chinatown who wear extravagant fur coats, friends, and fashion influences she followed throughout her childhood.
Downtown New York girls like Soo Joo Park (a model), Kate Foley (a stylist), and Hanneli Mustaparta (a blogger) are among the people who have worn some of her pieces. Liang's grandmother modeled one of her jackets on her website.
She now sells her clothes in more than 50 stores worldwide, including Nordstrom and Saks.
