Samuel "Sam" Lessin is a technology entrepreneur. He currently works as the co-founder and co-Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the AAI (artificial artificial intelligence) firm, The Fin Exploration Company also known as Fin. He also interns for the technology news site, The Information and is a partner at the venture capital firm Slow Ventures. He is also well known for co-founding the file-sharing service Drop.io which was acquired by Facebook in October, 2010. [1]
Personal Life
Sam Lessin and his wife Jessica Lessin, the CEO of technology journalism site The Information live in San Francisco. The couple got married on September 22, 2012 at the Santa Lucia Preserve in Carmel, California. Sam and Jessica Lessin met during studying at Harvard University. Sam is also a close friend of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg who was a classmate of his. Sam is passionate about kitesurfing and skiing.
Sam is originally from Englewood, New Jersey. His mother Nadia S. Wharton is an independent furniture, interior, and landscape designer in Englewood. His father, the late Robert H. Lessin was the vice chairman of the investment bank, Jefferies Group, known as Jefferies & Company at the time.
Career
Sam Lessin co-founded Fin in May, 2015 with Venmo co-founder Andrew Kortina. The company develops AAI and collaborative data products such as Fin Assistant a constantly learning and improving digital assistant app and Fin Contacts an app that helps users contact anyone. Since September, 2014 Sam has interned at the technology news site The Information. His role includes getting coffee, building IKEA furniture, and writing a column called, 'Modest Proposals'. Sam is also a partner focusing on early stage investments at the venture capital firm Slow Ventures. Sam has angel invested in some of his friends startups including Venmo, MakerBot, Birchbox, and Hot Potato.
Sam's was the CEO of file-sharing service Drop.io which he co-founded with Darshan Somashekar in August, 2007. The company was acquired by Facebook in October, 2010. [1] At Facebook, Sam worked as a Director of Product Management, Identity Product Group at Facebook. In March, 2014 he was promoted to Vice President, Product Management before departing in September, 2014. During his time at Facebook, Sam worked on the Facebook timeline and other product features. Prior to working in technology, Sam was an associate consultant at Bain and Company.
Education
Samuel Lessin graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with an A.B (Artium Baccalaureus) in Social studies in 2005.
