On August 12, 2017, Samantha Bloom was interviewed by Associated Press. She identified herself as the mother of James Fields, the man accused of driving his car into a crowd of protesters. [undefined]
Bloom told reporters that she was under the impression that Fields was "going to a rally" a week prior to the rally and that she generally stays out of his political views.

She also stated that Fields moved out to his own apartment five or six months prior to the rally.

Other Incidents with James Alex Fields Jr.
Records from the Florence Police Department in Kentucky show that James Fields' mother had called the police against him on two separate occasions.
In 2010, when James Fields was 13 years old, Samantha Bloom called 911 to say that her son smacked her in the head, put his hands over her mouth, and locked her in a bathroom after she told him to stop playing a video game.

In November 2011, he stood behind her wielding a 12-inch knife.

During that call, the dispatcher was logged to say, "Mom is scared he is going to become violent here."
Fields has also spit in her face.
