On February 1st, 2018, a school shooting occurred at Salvador Castro Middle School where two students were shot inside of a classroom, and a teenage female student was taken into custody. ^{[0] [1]}

At around 8:55 a.m., LAPD received a call of several gunshots fire police in the 1500 block of West 2nd Street.

^[5]The shooting took place at Salvador Castro Middle School and neighboring Belmont High School.

LAPD reported that a 15-year-old boy was shot in the head and transported to

a local trauma center who is in critical condition.

The second shot was of a girl who took a bullet on the wrist and is in stable condition.

The other injured victims were an 11-year-old boy, 12-year-old girl and 30-year-old woman, all of whom sustained “minor abrasion injuries” and were not hospitalized.

Officers took one suspect into custody, later identified as a female student at the school, and recovered a weapon at the scene.

Both the Salvador Castro Middle School and and neighboring Belmont High School were placed on lock down while police officers search the area for other possible suspects.
