Rob Fukuzaki

Rob Fukuzaki (born July 4, 1984) is a sports anchor for ABC7 News. He host special sports and post-game shows on every Saturday Night Sports.

Early life

Rob was born in Torrance, California. He was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, where his family relocated when he was three years old.

Education

Rob Fukuzaki attended Mid-Pacific Institute high school in Honolulu.

He later attend the University of La Verne in Southern California where he earned a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism with an emphasis in radio and television. While at La Verne University, he was chosen as the university's Broadcaster of the Year three consecutive role.

Professional life

Rob began his broadcasting career for KXPW radio station in Hawaii. Soon after Rob started working as a part-time reporter for KITV in Honolulu. He did sports reporting and eventually obtained a full-time slot working as the station's weekday sports reporter. [1]

He became the first male Japanese American TV anchor in West Los Angeles local TV News. One of Rob more memorable assignments at KITV was when he received an award-winning special on Sumo in Japan.[2]

Since joining ABC7 as a reporter, Rob usually participate in community activities, and hosting charity events. Rob founded the “Heads Up Youth Foundation” in 1996, where he is the chairman and his wife Sharil is the executive director. [3][4]

The goal of the foundation is to help underprivilage youth in Southern California, providing low income schools with backpacks, school supplies and shoes, building a science lab and reading centers, plus providing scholarships for Foster Youth attending college. [5][6]

Rob was inducted into the Southern California Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2016, joining others like his heroes Vin Scully, Chick Hearn, and Bob Miller.
