Disappearance

She went missing from Joshua Tree National Park. ^[0]At the time, she was hiking with her boyfriend, Joseph Orbeso. ^[1]

There is presently no reason to suspect foul play, according to authorities.

"We believe, unfortunately, we've got two young people that have gotten lost in the park, and we're doing our best to try to find them" said George Land, a ranger and spokesman for the park.

Sixty to one hundred searchers are working on and off the trail in the park in one of the largest searches in Joshua Tree in several years.

There has been no sign of the couple since Thursday, when Orbeso's cellphone was detected from a location inside the park around 4 p.m., the National Park Service said Saturday in a press release.

Temperatures are expected to top 100 degrees today and will remain in the mid to high 90s, with thunderstorms possible later in the week.

Update (August 1, 2017 at 12:00 PM): The superintendent has issued a temporary closure for the Maze Loop Trail as a result of the ongoing search.

For visitor and rescuer safety, the trailhead as well as the entire loop trail will be open for rescue staff only.

The closure will be lifted as soon as the missing parties are found.
