About
While working as an insecticide salesman, Slim would met a professor who wanted to co-author the book he had been working on for some time about the life he once had as a pimp.
After three months, he wrote the book.
Legend has it that Slim went to Holloway House Publishing Company which specializes in Black literature and culture, and dropped off his freshly printed manuscript. The publisher eventually agreed on working with Slim. The rest is history. [17]
The novel is a story that in many ways reflects the African American community for its portrayal of some of the most damaging aspects in Capitalist America facing the Black community. The novel, with its treatment of the underground criminal world pierces through the philosophy of what it takes to be a Pimp. [17] [18] [1]
Story

The book is accompanied with a glossary for the phrases and words that appear throughout the novel as part of its portrayal of street language.
Slim shares the tenets of being a Pimp, such as a Pimp not allowed to show emotion to his whores, and Iceberg was the extreme expression - thus the name Iceberg Slim.
Throughout the novel themes of abuse of power, racism, sexual abuse, and exploitation take shape, giving the story its seedy Realism. [3] [3]

"a pimp is happy when his whores giggle.
He knows they are still asleep...All whores have one thing in common just like the chumps humping for the white boss.
It thrills 'em when the pimps makes mistakes.
They watch and wait for his downfall.
A pimp is the loneliest bastard on Earth.
He's gotta know his whores.
He can't let them know him.
He's gotta be God all the way."
