Career
In 2007, McGann transitioned from packaging salesmen to stand up comedian.
Soon after taking the stage McGann was booked to be House Emcee at the historic Zanies Comedy Club. Hosting shows helped McGann develop the ability and desire to work any crowd.
In 2010, McGann created and hosted the Emmy nominated television show “The Chicago Stand Up Project”.
In 2015, he made his second appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman. He has been invited to The Great American Comedy Festival, Laugh Fest, The Lucille Ball Comedy Festival and has been heard on the nationally syndicated The Bob & Tom Show as well as seen on AXS-TV’s “Gotham Comedy Live”.
McGann's debut comedy album “Sounds Good” can be heard on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio.
In March 2020, McGann started posting daily 1-minute bits on Twitter. The comedian, from his kitchen and living room, says the positives from staying at home include not having to go to his kids' basketball games for a while and the money he is saving from the concession stands there. In other bits involving his wife and kids, McGann brags about predicting the result of a sports game that was re-aired from 2005. In one video, McGann's wife says their family will survive both crises: the coronavirus and "dad (McGann) being home all the time."[11]
Executive produced by Sebastian Maniscalco, McGann's first comedy special titled "Sebastian Maniscalco Presents Pat McGann: When's Mom Gonna Be Home?" was released July 28, 2020, on Comcast, Amazon Video, Spectrum, Apple TV and more via the Comedy Dynamics Network. Filmed at The Vic Theatre during a span of two sold-out shows in September 2019, the show centers on McGann's hilarious, real-life musings of a husband and father dealing with the sad reality that he isn't 20 anymore.[13][14]

Personal Life
Pat MicGann with his wife and children
McGann has three children: Josephine, 7, Elliot, 6, and Luke, 5.
His son Elliot, now in remission, battled leukemia as a toddler. In an interview with Chicago Parent, he told how he used his status to advocate for kids with cancer:
We created a night of comedy to raise money and awareness of pediatric cancer.
I was fortunate to have relationships with so many great comics that donated their time and talents to help families that were in the midst of a battle with cancer.
Beyond that, we try to give back to all of the foundations and charitable groups that helped us during Elliot's journey.
We will always be part of that world.[16]
McGann also told how his comedian career affects his relationships with children:
Josephine doesn't like when I imitate her mom.
I will talk like my wife on stage and she will say "Mommy doesn't sound like that" and then I have to say that it’s close enough, and people are laughing so we gotta stick with it if you want to keep wearing those glitter shirts.[16]
