Omani Free was an 18-year-old from Newburgh, New York. She was a senior in high school. Omani aspired to be fashion designer and wanted to attend Fashion Institute of Technology. She was originally from New York, New York. ^[1]

On October 30, 2016, during a Halloween party located in an apartment building in Newburgh, several guests attending started to get into a quarrel with each other. At around 12:43 A.M. somebody shut the light's off in the studio apartment and opened fire onto partygoers. Out of the seven people shot, five of them were injured while Omani and Tabitha Cruz died. Reports indicate that Omani was shot in the head.

A $2,500 reward has now been offered for information leading to the arrest of 17-year-old Nija A. Johnson, who is wanted for second-degree murder. Anyone with information is urged to contact Newburgh Police at 845-561-3131.

Two other suspects have been arrested related to the killings.  

Rainier Hamilton and 20-year-old Tyson Oliveira are charged with felony tampering with evidence, while Hamilton is also charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon.
