OK Boomer
OK Boomer
OK Boomer is a viral internet meme phrase used, often in a humorous or ironic manner, to call out or dismiss out-of-touch or close-minded opinions associated with the baby boomer generation and older people more generally. [2] [1]
Overview
The term originated from a viral audio clip on Tiktok, when a white-haired man in a baseball cap and polo shirt stated:
"The millennials and Generation Z have the Peter Pan syndrome, they don’t ever want to grow up."
Thousands of teens then responded through remixed reaction videos and art projects with the phrase: “ok boomer.”
Generation Z has used the term to reply to cringey Youtube videos, Donald Trump tweets, and any person over 30 who says something condescending about young people, and the issues that matter to them. [2]
In popular culture
A New Zealand politician, Chlöe Swarbrick, used the term "Ok Boomer" as an insult in parliament. [10]
