Career
Coming Out Simulator 2014
In early 2014, Nicky Case aspired to be an independent game developer. Influenced by chaos theory, Case believed that they could create large outputs in the gaming community with little input.
In mid-2014, they created the Coming Out Simulator 2014, which was a semi-fictionalized account of Case coming out as bisexual to their Asian parents. Their goal was to convey the anxieties of coming out as queer to the player, by highlighting huge life-changing decisions made throughout the process.
In addition to all the big changes made in between the story, they created small-to-medium choices the player would have to make within the story so that the player would not be able to know in advance what decisions were big and small.
The game got 500,000 plays and was nominated for 'Excellence in Narrative' at the Independent Games Festival in 2015.
