New Jersey Transit Train Crash September 2016
At around 8:45 a.m. on September 29th, 2016, a commuter train operated by Thomas Gallagher crashed into the terminal of the New Jersey Transit Hoboken station (PATH).
Sevveral passengers posted pictures on social media showing massive damage at the station.
According to multiple reports, there were multiple injuries, but officials have not confirmed a number.
New Jersey Transit Statement
Following the incident, NJ Transit released a statement saying that it is suspending service in and out of the station "due to a train accident."
But it offered no other immediate details about the crash.
PATH service at the station is also suspended.
The Police Chief also released a statement, saying that the cause of the accident is not known, but that there were possibly "mass casualties."
Passenger Reports
A user from New York City, under the name Inscrutable India, wrote, "Lucky to be alive.. we in the second car of the train that crashed in Hoboken."
A second passenger, Bhagyesh Shah, was standing in the back of the train when it crashed.
"The next thing I know, we are plowing through the platform," Shah said.
"It was for a couple seconds, but it felt like an eternity."
He said passengers in the second car broke the emergency windows to get out.
"I saw a woman pinned under concrete," Shah said.
"A lot of people were bleeding; one guy was crying."
Fabiola Bittar de Kroon was the lone death from the crash.
