Miriam Rivera

Miriam Rivera

Miriam Rivera was born in New York and is the co-founder and managing partner of Ulu Ventures.

She also co-founded and is the co-president of Stanford Angels and Entrepreneurs.

Early Life and Education

Rivera's mother never completed her education and her father was not around very often.

She describes herself as "an inner city, Spanish-speaking, low-income, free-lunch, first-in-her-family to college girl."

She received a scholarship and was the first in her family to go college attending Stanford University. She graduated from Stanford with several degrees including a bachelor's degree in Sociology in 1986, a master's in Spanish in 1989 and a JD/ MBA in 1995.

Career

Miriam Rivera was one of the first lawyers at Google.

She was vice president/deputy general counsel at Google and secretary to the board at Google.org.

She also worked as the assistant secretary to the board of Google Inc. and as a member of Google's disclosure committee.

Stanford

Rivera served on the Board of Visitors of Stanford Law School, the Dean's Advisory Council for the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Sanford University's Board of Trustees.

In addition, she also was an adviser to the Rock Center on Corporate Governance Venture Capital Director's College.

Currently she is a member of the Stanford Law Venture Fund and Stanford's Lead Council and a recipient of the Stanford Medal.

Rivera co-founded and is the co-president of Stanford Angels & Entrepreneurs, a network of Stanford alumni investors and entrepreneurs.

She has also taught in the Stanford Technology Ventures Program in the School of Engineering on start-up board issues and is a mentor in entrepreneurship at the Stanford GSB.

Ulu

Rivera is the co-founder and managing partner of Ulu Ventures.

At Ulu Ventures she works on seed-stage investments in technology-enabled services, educational technology, and legal information.

Awards

Rivera was chosen by Corporate Counsel magazine as one of the top 10 corporate attorneys in the United States in 2005.

Then in 2006 she was voted by the Hispanic National Bar Association "Latina Lawyer of the Year".

In 2008 she was awarded the Jerry A. Porras Leadership Award from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Personal

Rivera is married to Clint Korver COO of NovoEd and the two of them have two daughters, Serena and Sofia.
