Milan Popović (businessman)

Milan Popović (b. 1965) is Serbian businessman, best known as former partner of Croatian singer Severina.

Popović was born in Serbian town of Vršac, where he lived before joining his father in Switzerland. There he began to work as a taxi driver. According to one anegdote, passenger on one of his fares was young broker from Marc Rich Commodities; two men became friends and the broker has set him a job in the firm. Popović proved to be very valuable because of the ease which he learned Russian and was sent to post Soviet countries to trade aluminium and other metals. According to other stories, his father Aleksandar has already been having business with Soviets, thus creating valuable personal and business connections for his son.

Popović has been proven as good businessman.

He became associated with billionaire Vasily Anisimov. By mid 1990s he became part of Moscow business elite, creating an image of playboy which he cultivated with luxurious parties featuring large amounts of champagne and hordes of attractive women. He also built and owned couple of Moscow night clubs which catered to the new oligarch elite. Later he worked with billionaire Igor Altushkin who would become one of his main business partner. In 1999 he founded Amalco group Cyprus.

Popović returned to Serbia in 2001, but he generally managed to remain outside public spotlight in his native country, until 2011 when a friend arranged for Severina to sing at this birthday party.

Popović and Severina soon afterwards began a romantic partnership which would result in a birth of son named Aleksandar in 2012.

The couple separated in 2013, which later led to bitter custody battle.

In order to be as close to his son as possible, Popović issued residency permit in Zagreb and in November 2019 Croatian court gave custody of Aleksandar to him.

In the meantime, Popović began romantic relationship with a marketing student named Bojana.

She gave birth to two of their sons - Milan (2017) and Đorđe (2019).

Popović currently lives between Vršac, Belgrade and Zagreb.

He is a licesned pilot and owns Cessna CitationJet registered in Texas. He also owns Sunseeker yacht in Croatia, as well as penthouse in Belgrade, villas in Cyprus and Miami, as well as real estate in London.
