Mickey Russell was the estranged husband of former Buena Vista, Colorado mayor Cara Russell.
Mickey was a pilot and owned multiple companies based in Buena Vista in the aviation industry.
Mickey was the CEO and founder of Russell Aviation a flight training adventure company.
He also previously ran another adventure flight company, Elite World Flights from 2012-2013.
Mickey was the CEO of SkyFunder, a crowdfunding company and the video advertising network MyLittleAd Inc. He ran a non-profit organization called Sky Arc which provided free or low cost flights to rescue groups.
Mickey graduated from the Metropolitan State College of Denver in 1994 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc), Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering.
He also studied recording engineering at Full Sail University for 1 year in 1980.

Murder
Mickey Russell shot his wife to death before killing himself at his wife's office in Denver, Colorado. [1]
On Wednesday June 28, 2016 at around 2:30 p.m he walked in to Cara's office in the Alliance Center at 1562 Wynkoop in the LoDo area of downtown Denver. Mickey shot Cara multiple times with a handgun before shooting himself. By the time Denver Police arrived both Mickey and Cara were dead. [undefined]
Motive
Mickey Russell killed Cara a few days after she served him papers for their divorce.
Cara had filed for drive from Mickey in April, 2016 and moved to Denver to start a new job as the executive director of the Colorado Recycling Association. [1]
Mickey Russell's mental health was declining before the shooting.
A few weeks before the shooting Mickey was banned from the Buena Vista Airport for threatening to fly a plane into a building.
