Michelle Vo (January 10, 1985 - October 1, 2017) was an Vietnamese American Insurance agent for New York Life Insurance company know for being one of the victims in the Las Vegas Shooting.
Biography
Early Life
Michelle was born in the state of California to Vietnamese parents who had migrated to the United States in order to avoid the communist regime in Vietnam. Her mother Hana Bui and her father, along with her sister, Diane, fled from Vietnam in a canoe-like boat to Thailand in the year 1981. Her sister, Cathy, was born in Thailand.
A few years later, the family moved to the Orange County, California area - a place where Hana Bui's brother was living and where Michelle would later be born. After her father died at the age of 41, the family moved to San Jose, California where she remarried.
Michelle had always been close with her family growing up.
She graduated from Independence High School in 2003.
Education
Career
The last photo of Michelle Vo that was taken along with another women she met moments before.
After college, she would eventually return to San Jose where she worked as an executive assistant to the marketing directors at companies like Synopsys and Richrelevance.
She worked there for years until 2013, when the firm was downsized and was one of the people laid off.
After a few months, she resettled in Los Angeles where she landed a job working for New York Life Insurance.
Death
The last video that was taken by Michelle Vo just moments before Stephen Paddock began shooting down on the crowd.
Michelle's life was taken during the Mandalay Bay Resort Shooting in Las Vegas on October 1st, 2017. She had gained an appreciated for country music and was excited to attend the Route 91 Harvest Country Music Festival which took place on the weekend of September 29th - October 1st.
Michelle and a new friend, Kody Robertson were at the festival on Sunday and were enjoying the headline performance, which was Jason Aldean. She also met a women whom she took one of the last known photos of Michelle.
As Michelle and Kody stood next to each other amid some 22,000 fans, they heard the first pops echo across the Las Vegas Strip, just after 10 p.m.
They thought it was fireworks, just a part of the show.
As soon as people began to run for their life, Michelle was struck on the side of her chest and fell.
She was one of the 59 people who lost their lives by shooter, Stephen Paddock.
According to testimony, Robertson threw his body on her when she was shot as a way to protect her.
After one of the clips ceased and shooting stopped, Robertson and another man worked together to carry Michelle to safety.
They paused for cover each time the gunfire resumed.
“Michelle, Michelle!” Robertson screamed as he and the other man took turns performing CPR on Vo, who was not longer responsive.
Robertson discovered a white pickup truck that was headed to the hospital, so he placed Michelle's body on the truck's bed and headed back to help more people.
On his way there, he saw Vo’s purse on the ground in the area where they had been dancing.
Her phone wasn’t inside, so he furiously called the number Vo had given him earlier until, finally, someone answered.
Another group of concertgoers had picked up the phone as they ran for the exits.
Robertson picked it up at Planet Hollywood.
He got in touch with Jeremiah Hawkins, the husband of Vo’s oldest sister, Diane, calling from the couple’s home in Washington state.
He was frantic, asking Robertson about Vo and where she had been taken.
Robertson didn’t know, and it took him some time to find out that she had been at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center. By 11 a.m., Robertson was led to a small back office where he was told that she didn't make it by one of the doctors told him. “The wounds were too much.”

Marriage
After college, she was married to a man named Tomo Swendsen.
The couple met in college.
They later separated.
Personality
Michelle is a Vietnamese American who grew up in California for most of her life. She was remembered for her smile and her exuberant personality she wore everywhere she went.
Tattoos
She had a giant flower tattoo on her back that she loved.
She also had a Scorpio tattoo on the inside of her left wrist.
Traveling
After her time with Synopsys and Richrelevance, she traveled to many places around Europe before getting the job at New York Life Insurance.
Music
Michelle loved all kinds of music and was eventually introduced to Country Music by her brother-in-law.
