Michalene Melges is a 40 year old mother of three and real estate agent.
She has three sons 14-year-old Hans, 12-year-old Kristian (“Max”) and 10-year-old Maverik (“Buddy”).
Michalene lives in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and grew up in the North Shore area of Chicago, Illinois.
Michalene is a Lake Geneva real estate agent who runs her own company Michalene Melges Properties, which is represented by the real estate agency Keefe Real Estate.
She was awarded as the top producer award at Keefe Real Estate, Inc., she also appeared on the cover of Top Agent Magazine in 2014.
After graduating from the Art Institute of Chicago, Michalene attended Studio Arts International in Florence, Italy where she studied Fine Art, Design, Photography.
Disappearance
Michalene Melges and her sons were last seen leaving their home in the 900 block of South Lakeshore Drive in Lake Geneva on May 10th.
Police say Michalene rented a van in Lake Bluff, Illinois on May 9th and the van was returned to a rental company in Plano, Texas on May 13th. Michalene had missed 3 visitations with the father of the children, which is illegal in the State of Illinois, which may have been the motive for the disappearance.
Michalene and her children may be traveling with their two dogs “King,” a black English black lab and “Gigi” or “Geneva,” a white Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Michalene and the boys' father, Hans Erik Melges, recently divorced.
Michalene is currently in violation of their custody agreement for failing to bring her sons to three visitations with him.
P olice said there is no evidence that she is keeping the boys from their father or that the family is in any danger.
Hans Erik Melges is the son of Olympic gold and bronz winning sailor Buddy Melges Jr.
Police said Michalene called the boys' school, saying they would be on vacation from May 10-13.
Foul play was not suspected by police.
On May 24, Lake Geneva police reported Michalene and her sons were found safe in Georgia.
Charges
Since Michalene Melges had shared custody with her ex-husband Hans Erik Melges and since they missed three visitations she is facing seven charges including three felonies:
Interfering with child custody – other parent (three counts) Contributing to truancy (three counts) Disorderly conduct
Police have requested Michalene Melges’ extradition from Savannah, Georgia back to Wisconsin to face charges in Walworth County wich Lake Geneva, Wisconsin is a part of. [33]
The three boys were with authorities in Savannah, Georgia on Tuesday May 24, 2016.
The boys father and other relatives went to pick up the boys in Savannah.
Motive
The conflict between Michalene and her ex-husband Hans began when Hans had a scheduled visitation with the children on May 6th, where he had an argument with Michalene.
On May 7th, he was supposed to have a scheduled visitation with his children but he told police he received a phone call from one of the children indicating they didn't want him arguing anymore and he shouldn't come get them.
Hans indicated Michalene failed to give over the children for scheduled visitations on May 13th, 14th, 16th, 20th, 21st and 24th.
Hans tried to reach Michalene but did not hear back from her.
said he had not heard from Michalene.
On May 9th, the Hans spoke with Michalene's father, who said he and his wife had gone to Melges' home to "confront her about her behavior," which led to an argument between them.
Michalene's father indicated Michalene said: "
"You'll never see the kids again."
After May 9th no family or coworkers had contact with Michalene.
