Michael Hamill is an American Police officer for the Gainesville Police Department who during his Social media reports of Hurricane Irma for his good looks. [1]
Career
Hamill has been a part of the Gainesville police department since 2016.
During Hurricane Irma he became a distinguished police officer, along with many others in the department for helping the community of Gainesville through the storm.
Viral
On September, 2017, as Hurricane Irma became a greater threat, and the police agency did their best to protect and serve, Michael took a selfie of himself along with two other officers that was shared on the department's Facebook page and it immediately went viral. The reason for the photo going viral was due to the Hamill's good looks, with the public seeing the police officers as handsome heroes.
The photo has gotten 181,000 comments, one calling the officers “hunkapotumuses,” and 517,000 likes and 276,000 shares.
Anti-Semitic Jokes

Upon the selfie of Michael going viral, people began visited his Facebook and discovered his dark past. Users dug into older posts by Hamill dating as far back as 2011, and found he had made several racist comments against Jewish people.
In a post dating back to 2011, it reads:
“so I find it funny that people will talk about how our government needs to do something about our economy and in reality it’s YOU who needs to stop taking advantage of our system and get a life and do something with your life.
Gotta love reality when it hits you in the face.
Stupid people annoy me.
Put them in an oven and deal with them the Hitler way.
Haha.”
Hamill alludes that lazy people should receive the same violent, racist treatment, against Jews in the same fashion as Nazi-era Germany led by Adolf Hitler.
In another post dating back to two years later in 2013, he explains that Jewish jokes
help him sleep at night, and proceeds with a joke of his own:
“Who knew that reading jewish jokes before I go to bed would not only make me feel better about myself but also help me to sleep better as well.
Here is one for everybody, ‘What’s the difference between boy scouts and jews?’ Anybody know?
Well it is because ‘Boy scouts come back from their camps’”.
Reactions
People have since taken to the Gainesville Police Department facebook account to demand that Hamill is disciplined for his racist commentary dating back years ago.
Many have already started trying to get him fired.
GPD spokesman Ben Tobias said the agency is reviewing a complaint against Officer Michael Hamill, adding that the complaint information is confidential until an investigation is finished.
